DVDs by Mail — More Content, Less Waiting

OTTAWA, ON — September 27, 2010

Dear Members,

I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself, and to personally give you a Zip.ca update about our growing DVD library and our plans to introduce a streaming service in the near future.

Providing more movies and TV shows to you is a constant focus for us here at Zip.ca.

We are implementing numerous changes to improve your experience with Zip.ca, including efforts to test a new bar code system in partnership with Canada Post to track and improve the time it takes to ship your DVD’s. Please remember to use ZipRefill when you send your DVD’s back to us.

When you ZipRefill:

  • We ship you another ZipListed title before the one you returned arrives at our distribution center
  • You get ZipReward points!
  • We can use the information to track and improve shipping times

On the content front, we are continuing to buy more copies and more titles. This year alone our additions have brought our catalogue to more than 80,000 titles. Our Movie and TV library will continue to grow every month in both quantity and quality.  We are completely dedicated to seeing your service get better and better.

Streaming — What and When

At Zip.ca our approach to streaming is to bring our members the hottest new releases as well as titles from previous years, in the simplest and most cost-effective ways. The streaming service we are bringing to Canadians involves co-coordinating both studios and hardware companies in parallel. We are in the late stages of negotiating with all the major Hollywood Studios, some Canadian content holders and all the major brands of equipment manufacturers. This means that when we launch, you will be able to stream new releases as well as older content and it will be widely available on name brand manufacturers of TV’s, Blu-Ray players, game consoles and computers. We are excited to bring you our streaming service and will communicate the dates it will be available as soon as we can.

For those of you who may have heard of streaming but may not know how it works we will make sure your experience with Zip.ca remains easy. You will still maintain one ZipList and be able to decide if you would like your movies and TV shows mailed or streamed.

If for any reason you would like to contact me directly, I can be reached at scott@zip.ca.

Thanks, and stay tuned for more announcements from Zip.ca soon.
