Internic.ca Accepts Applications for New .BIZ and .INFO Domain Names

    OTTAWA, ON, May 9 /CNW/ - Internic.ca, Canada's leading Internet
registrar, today announced it is now taking applications for .BIZ and .INFO
and taking trademark claims for the registration of .BIZ and .INFO domain
names. The new service is available as of today at www.internic.ca
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) recently
approved new Top Level Domains (TLD's). Two of these are .BIZ and .INFO which
are the first two new top level domain names to be approved for use. The
registration under these domain names will go into effect in the next 30 days.
As both domain names are ramped up for registrations, there are periods
of time that trademark holders can submit their trademarks in an effort to
protect them. Internic.ca is now accepting trademark information.
Complete explanations about the changes in top level domain names, as
well as timetables can be found in the pre-booking section of the Internet
site: www.internic.ca
Internic.ca also offers an extensive section of Frequently Asked
Questions for both the .BIZ and .INFO domain names.
(http://www.internic.ca/FAQmenu.asp) Trademark holders can also find all the
answers to their question regarding the Trademark Claim Process on these
pages.
At Internic.ca, pre-booking is done simply from a main search page.
Registrants can, at any time, during the process, log back in and add or
delete domain names from their pre-booked lists.
Internic.ca offered a similar service during the recent change over the
.CA domain name and the service was very well received by the company's
clients.
Rob Hall, President of Internic.ca, originally came up with the idea of a
pre-booking service for the .CA registrations that opened up in November 2000,
and decided to offer it to his customers after receiving a flood of inquiries
about such a service. "Because of the pent up demand for new top level domain
names, many individuals and companies have been prohibited from registering a
.com domain name. With new Top Level domains, companies and individuals who
could not get a .com because someone else has it can get the .BIZ or .INFO
domain names this fall."
